Oil Can Shakeup

Post by CudaMan » Fri Dec 16, 2022 8:10 am

I just downloaded the April, 2022 updates for the MTFCI judging guidelines (I know, I'm slow). Among the many interesting and useful updates was a major shakeup of the oil can descriptions for each year.

The bayonet spout style that was specified for all if not nearly all years now applies ONLY to 1915 through 1917 cars.

Cars earlier than 1915 are described as coming with a can with a spout that threads INTO the body of the can.

Cars later than 1917 are described as coming with a can with a spout that threads ONTO the body of the can.

I checked the oil can on my 1924 and it has the bayonet style spout, so I suppose it is a 1915-1917 can and is incorrect for my 1924.

If anyone has a nice Ford thread-on spout can in similar condition to my bayonet spout can and wants to trade, post pictures of your offering here and maybe we can trade. :)

Russ F., will there be a printed 8th edition of the guidelines available soon? Or maybe an update pack for the current 7th edition? I looked on the MTFCI store and didn't see one. :)

I am glad they revised this. most of these changes can be seen in the Ford parts catalogs. You just have to look close. Darryl
