Period comics
I stole this image from the Facebook Model T group. "Gasoline Alley", no date. It reminded me that the comics section of old newspapers from the mid-teens to the early 1930s provide a wealth of fun car gags, and "real life" insights into motoring in the early days. From its inception, "Gasoline Alley" ran a continuous saga that would warm the hearts of today's speedster enthusiasts. If you ever have an opportunity to peruse the morgue files of your local papers, it can be a lot of fun. The old strips often show what motoring was really like "back in the day".

Re: Period comics
Wonderful stuff Rich. Those Gasoline Alley and Andy Gump are so fun to see. Often Model T related as well.
Maybe we'll see some more.
Thanks

Re: Period comics
Pre-WWII newspaper comic strips and animated cartoons were marvelous.

Done that with oil. At least the drain pan was still under, but ruined new oil!

Re: Period comics
I confess I had not followed Gasoline Alley. Thanks for bringing up to date. I did enjoy some clips of Andy Gump and his vehicle. The Gumps ran from 1917 until 1959.
I thought it might be interesting here too.
Rich
He had a racy looking car with 348 on the radiator. There were toys made of he and it and also a game.
There was even a sprint car named “Andy Gump,” in honor of its unusual nose and grill (CRA) in 1962.I thought it might be interesting here too.

Re: Period comics
Another one. I don't get it or they cut off the punch line. It does show more of the car though.
And a game.

Re: Period comics
I think there must be frames missing, Rich. Our local paper never carried Gasoline Alley, but it did have The Gumps. I remember when the strip quit in '59. Another one from the '20s that ended about the same time was "Boots and Her Buddies".

Re: Period comics
Smokey Stover was another one. He was often seen in his two-wheeled firetruck, or whatever, sometimes called the Foo Fighter or Foo mobile. It ran from 1935 until 1972.
