Strange Serial number

Post by Franko » Wed Mar 01, 2023 10:23 pm

Looking at a1921 roadster with correct serial numbers on engine but the title has r e b letters before the same serial nembers that’s on engine . Has anyone ever seen those letters on a Ohio title? I’m thinking it may mean rebuild??? Thank you Tim Franko

That sounds like a rebuilt title. All states are required to brand titles from cars sold through insurance salvage or back to the owners after a car has been solen or totaled and bought back by the owner from the insurance carrier

I agree that it likely stands for "rebuilt". There are always changes in procedures, after reading this PDF I would expect that the title would have REBUILT SALVAGE .but it may have been titled before such laws were in place. So what it might have meant at the time it was issued, it may not conform to what a rebuilt title looks like now. Also VIN numbers need to be unique and a clerk could have prefixed it because that number portion already existed. When was this Title issued?

The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.

I’ll have to see when it was title was issued. It’s a little clearer.

Tim, I have seen A, R, B's before serial numbers? figured they where for commercial use engines that got installed into cars, have to remember oil pump jacks and combines had them in them.
