Fuel Sediment/Shutoff Valve Packing..

Post by Carl » Thu Apr 06, 2023 12:21 pm

What material is the packing on the 26/27 fuel shutoff valve …The vendor was out ,,I guess I could look at others …
If it’s leather I have scraps I can cutout a new one ….
I’m using a small valve ,,into a glass bowl filter now…I want it to look more like a mechanic worked on it not a plumber ;0)….
Thanks in advance….

Leather would probably work well.

Packing is a graphite impregnated cord. Used in water pumps & faucets. Today teflon impregnated cord is available in plumbing stores. Not sure how it stands up to fuel. I have been using packing off a period roll.

If you find the larger hemp & graphite packing you can unbraid it and twist the strands together to make any size you need same can be done
with the Teflon if you can't find it small enough. In a pinch I have spun up some teflon tape into a cord to seal a leaky carb bowl just a thought.
