The cable tool oil rig appears to be operating. Note the blurred image of the engine flywheel inside the engine house. It looks like they have a sandline over the derrick and are running a small bailer or a sand pump to clean loose material out of the wellbore. This could be part of a drilling operation, or they could be cleaning the well bore as part of a production operation. Actual drilling would involve hanging the pitman back on the crankpin to put the walking beam into operation raising and lowering a string of tools, basically a huge chisel, in the hole. These outfits beat a hole into the earth and rock, from a few dozen feet to several thousand feet deep.
