Scammers Without MTFCA Membership
After avoiding another potential scammer who responded to my MTFCA ad I wonder why we even allow a non member access to our forum? From conversations with other members this non member access is an on going problem. Every transaction I have had with members has been exceptional and the site has been immense help in my quest in restoring my Model T.
Thank you for letting me rant.

Don't tar all non members with the same brush, I live in the UK and a member of the Model T Ford Register of Great Britain. Although i rarely post I rely on this forum massively to keep my car on the road.

Alan
at this moment, there are 6 members and 65 guests perusing the forum.
I absolutely get why you feel the way you do, but you must realize that your access to parts will become most severely curtailed if those folks all went away. It seems that it is pretty easy to see how many posts a person has done, and whether or not he or she most certainly owns a "T" just by reading their posts. In over 10 years of buying and selling, I have never come close to being scammed by following my own advice.
good luck and be careful

Here we go again… could we add this topic to the MMO, unleaded fuel, and non detergent oil taboo topics list?

Re: Scammers Without MTFCA Membership
Good questions asked here. I'm leaving in Canada and I would say it's not a big deal paying $60 per year to help the hobby stay alive... I learnt so much with this forum and made several friends either. I would say it is something we will have to think having a MTFCA membership at least for selling in the classifieds Parts and vehicules... My 2 cents. Also the membership it is for the nice Vintage Magazine posting. So paying 16 cents per day for something I love, it's not a big deal for me. Submited with all my respect.

Re: Scammers Without MTFCA Membership
I must wonder why scammers hit this forum and club members so much harder than other forums I post on. I am a member of the SmokStak, that is in reference to old machinery and seldom do I ever see "bots" or scammers.
If you can't help em, don't hinder em'

Mack : That is an easy question to answer. Model T guys are known Worldwide for being frugal, therefore they have plenty of money to scam out of.

Re: Scammers Without MTFCA Membership
Here’s a solution to not getting scammed in classifieds that I’m sure most of you know. I’ll probably just be beating a dead horse. Anyways, just ask the person to take a picture of something or themselves with a piece of paper with a phrase or word you tell them to write on it. Maybe you should need to do that to make an account for the forum. Reporting the bots is by far the best way to get them off the site. Just my opinion. Stay Safe and don’t get scammed,

Re: Scammers Without MTFCA Membership
No members can view the Forum but are restricted from sending PM or emails through the Forum site. You opened the door for the scammer by posting your phone number & email address in your ad. To protect one another its best to send an email via the Forum by clicking on the seller's userid Bigal. After I get some scammers I when & updated most all of my ads & removed the photo of my email address as wellBigal wrote: ↑Wed Jul 12, 2023 1:44 pmAfter avoiding another potential scammer who responded to my MTFCA ad I wonder why we even allow a non member access to our forum? Unless you have sold something to the emailer before any non forum email is suspicious. Yes an scammer can enroll into the Forum & respond then PM/eMail but suspicion is noted by checking their enrollment date
The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.

I'm also on V8 Buick.com and we get scammers too. Sadly, this is the price of instant access. We all just have to be careful.
