Presoaking linings for transmission bands
Is it necessary to presoak linings in oil before they are riveted to bands or can I do it afterwards before I reinstall them ?

Makes more sense to do it then. It would be a mess trying to rivet it to band presoaked

Re: Presoaking linings for transmission bands
I soak them after installing.
Leave bands on the loose side.
Pour 2 quarts of oil on them over an hour or 2 time period. (1/4 quart per pour)
Let soak over night (minimum) before running the motor.

Re: Presoaking linings for transmission bands
I find it much easier to install the rivets if the linings are pre-soaked for cotton linings.

I soak mine for a couple days in a big Dutch pot before they go into the engine/trans.

I rivet them to the bands and then soak them before installation.

Re: Presoaking linings for transmission bands
I install the linings then soak overnight in neatsfoot oil. Just because that was the recommendation in the era. Any thoughts as to why neatsfoot oil is/was preferable to motor oil ? I have always had good service from cotton linings by doing so.

Re: Presoaking linings for transmission bands
I Install them dry in the car. Pour some oil down them once installed. Never had a problem.
