What have you done to your Model T in July?

When I built the trunk rack for the '09, I wasn't ready to develop the hinged links for raising and lowering it. I got tired of changing separate links for Up and Down. This design has an offset in the upper link which provides for a better-looking arrangement when up. The different distances between holes of individual links keeps them from interfering with each other or the trunk frame.

I distorted flat washer to have some spring to reduce vibration and staked the bolts so the nuts would stay put.

By tightening nuts, the rack should stay in place either way.

I blew out the outer muffler shell a few weeks ago on the Manhattan KS tour. So yesterday I began RE- forming it around a 5” x 1’ pipe. By using duck bill vicegrips I reestablished the straightened crimps and restored the original cylindrical outer shell. Then, with great difficulty, I reassembled the muffler with 3 shells and 3 ‘bolts’ to clamp the two cast ends together.

I replaced the flapper timer on my 25 RPU with a new Tip Top New Day timer. It ran better, but the mag has been week since I purchased it a few years ago. So, today I recharged the magneto. I used 3, 12 volt batteries, found a north pole with a compass and zapped it 8 times. The result was successful. It now runs very well on the magneto.

Well. I was just going to change the bands on my 22 touring when we ended up having to remove the hogshead because we thought only 2 of the 3 bands were demountable. Turns out the 3rd band was demountable only a different design. Then I found out I have 2 cracks in my brake drum. So it looks like were gonna pull the engine. Id be a good time to possibly tebuild the transmission and take a good look at the engine. It runs hot. Guess I'll be learning a lot about the Model T real quick! Haha!

I've been busy repainting the rear seat riser on my 1912 roadster and doing some touch up on a rear fender I scraped struggling to get it installed.

By the way, I like the Nason single stage paint I'm using. Being an old school guy, I use a siphon cup gun and the paint flows nicely and is relatively inexpensive.
Were it not for the dust specs I would use it without color sanding or buffing

I started it for the first time since October. I drained and refilled the tank with fresh gas (non-Ethanol) first, then cranked her up. Despite it's very slow cranking speed , it started on the first try and ran well. I'm going to check the voltage drop in the starter circuit, and if it's OK I will be back here looking for a recommendation of someplace or somebody to rebuild it. I have been waiting for one from Lang's for over a year, so I guess their supply has dried up.

If you are referring to having a starter rebuilt, better get a hold of Jeff Stevenson here (site 1/2 Admin.) - he just posted some available - you won't find better since Ron P. retired from the starter business !!!

Finished installing stevens bushings on one front axle. I have a few more to go to have replacements ready to go on the shelf. Reaming takes a hot minute but it’s one of the best tools I’ve bought in a while.

Some fan shaft work today. This end had been ravaged by some wrenches. I was able to pound back most of the damage to a size that the wrench would work on now.

I found this shaft was bent when trying to remove it. It wouldn't come out of the pulley. It was easy to straighten enough so it slid out smoothly without damaging the bore any further. I suspect something big "hit the fan", perhaps in removing the engine or after. A little more careful straightening and it could be reused.

For the past week I’ve butchered a later wishbone (had a squared off ball) and machined down to .25” the wishbone under axle contacts and mated the 2 pieces to this $105 three part brass accy. Did this for safety’s sake on my 2nd runabout. Many of y’all know of Henry Ford being thrown out of the back seat of his chauffeur driven ‘15 touring when it flipped after the front axle buckled under due to a poor wishbone design. Now both ‘14 runabouts have this safety precaution. I also installed a transmission screen and mag post outside oil line

Installed the Timer, Fan hub, and new Belt.
Replaced the Dodge fan with a new Model T fan.
Not gonna claim the Radiator until it's done and good.

Richard, your 12 Roadster is really coming along nicely! It's looking fabulous. I am behind you in my progress but made some today, picked up splash aprons and rear fenders from the painter. Going to focus on engine pan (taking to Brent Terry on Friday to straighten and thoroughly check out), recharge magnets, and make repairs to stripped magneto contact screw holes in the aluminum hogshead. It's a process, and it demands patience.

Checking my bands a few weeks ago, I found the brake lining badly worn on the left side; the right side looked great.

Decided to attempt the change through the inspection cover.

Getting it out wasn't bad. Once removed, I found the reason the left side was worn so badly:

Had to take the cowl off the Speedster to get the new band with new lining pulled around the drum, but that gave me the room to pull it around.

Now all good and ready to run!

Thats typical wear. Nothing to do with the crack.
I hope you didnt repair that band. It needs pitching.

Deconstructed my coil box looking for an issue, fixed it, cleaned all the metal hardware...

I was at a light and the T just cut out. It seemed electrical to me since there wasn't even a sputter as it died. Luckily I was close to home and got it started.

It turns out the wire from the bottom strip in the box was soldered to the end of the bolt on the coil post and naturally, the solder joint broke.

I took apart the coil box, used the opportunity to clean everything that is metal, and installed a ring connector to the wire and bolt. Now everything is running again, and maybe even a little better than before.

Decorated the camping car and drove it in a 4th of July parade.

Bought four rough front 1926-27 front fenders and cut them up to make rear fenders for the truck.

Bent up a batch of thick wall tubing to make braces for the roof.

I removed the exhaust pipe, wrapped it with exhaust pipe wrap and reinstalled the pipe. I fabricated a heat shield and installed it. Now, I hope to prevent roasting my wife when she rides along.

John - I pitched the cracked band, as you mentioned. I had purchased three refurbished bands from a vendor in anticipation of possibly replacing all three with Kevlar if I had to remove the hogshead. Next time, for sure. Not a job I want to do more than necessary.

Radiator filler snout solder came loose. Did hard clean of surfaces and resoldered.
Still leaking on exterior of overfill tube. Gonna have to pull the whole thing and flip
the radiator for that operation.

Frontier Days is just the best! If you've never experienced a multi-day, multi-event Rodeo Extravaganza, this is the place to be in late July!! Been a few years since I've attended, and I think it's about time I return - maybe next year. Our local Rodeo is very impressive, but Cheyenne is simply over the top for good clean fun (for spectators - not the cowboys!)

Bring your car! Riding in the parade is the best part of CFD. The pancake breakfasts are pretty good too.

In June I started the rebuild of a 1911 Torpedo.
Today I installed the rebuild front axle on the cleaned up frame.
The engine will be in at end of next week.
Leaving for a short hollyday tomorrow.

Got my WOSP starter installed (bought it here on from the Classifieds) in the Speedster! Works great. Just thinking ahead to when I might not be able to hand-crank it over (extra compression with the RAJO head). Thanks to everyone here on the forum that provided feedback, advice, and guidance through the installation. Much appreciated!

Organized my part hoard. Was frustrated in trying to find stuff. Recycled fruit, vegetable & cookie containers. The clear plastic fruit & vegetable containers are great see through! Hanging items are on s-hooks slid through a threaded rod, rod through shelf bracket holes. The three bottom shelves on the wall & 2 on the steel rack are connected / adjustable via threaded rod. NOTE: Its against the law to use "new" USPS for storage but okay to recycle the ones mailed to you. And you can put an item in a new box for future shipping

Finally put the bed back on the truck after reworking the wood. Also added the toolbox to the bed. I installed new wooden bands from Jim Guinn along with the correct Hogshead for my transmission. I replaced both headlights and 1 lens as well as repacked the water pump and fixed my leaky radiator hoses. My generator decided to not work now too. Oh well, old stuff breaks. Also, I would like to add that I do all my work outside and the temperature in the day in southern Nevada has consistently been 110 the days I have decided to work.

It isn’t too bad once you are used to it though.

Continuing to make progress on the 12 roadster.
This week I finished the floor boards, cut the floor mats, modified and installed the heat shield and installed the coilbox.
The coilbox is my own creation . A smaller repro box to accomodate later coils with a repro Kingston switch and Splitdorf brackets.

Replaced The Mincie in the fire truck, Changed to a 10 tooth pinion, cleaned the block & radiator out. Much better driving now & runs in 115
degree heat without boiling when you shut the engine off.
