Re: WANTED: 1913-1918 Runabout/Roadster
Gotta love Harold Lloyd!
Not sure about the year of the car however. Looks like a 1919 or later horn button (but cannot really see it?). However maybe oval top sockets and round-wood felloe wheels?
Good luck on your search for a runabout that era! They are out there, although I don't know of one available at this time.
There was one on the AACA forum awhile back. But I think it was a few years newer? There have also been a few 1915ish for sale recently, but a couple of them I know were sold.

Thanks Wayne,
the car pictured with Lloyd is a 1917 or early 1918.

Stephen, I have seen maybe half of his films that are known to still exist? However I do not recognize that one. Do you know which film it was?

Thank you Stephen! I will have to watch late at night when I have enough minutes to see it. That is one of the ones I have not seen.

Stephen, I wish you good luck in your search for a model T runabout, and hope you have many years and many miles if enjoyment with it!
At the risk of further thread drift? I did watch the film on youtube, and very much enjoyed it. 25 minutes of Harold Lloyd fun and antics! He truly was one of the best.
The "Model T" in the film was however at least two different cars. In early scenes, including the still you posted above, it is a later 1917 with the offset windshield hinges and small horn button on the top of the steering column. Later in the film, and only visible in a few closeups of him driving the car, it clearly has the 1918 combination horn and light switch on the side of the steering column. Typical Hollywood! The little details they expect us to not notice.
Now, see if this thread can get back on track and help find a runabout for you! (Sometimes a little interesting drift can inspire interest and maybe help?)

Wayne,
No worries about the thread drifting. It’s all about fun anyway! Glad you enjoyed the movie. I think it’s his best, and definitely my favorite one!

Stephen, thank you for posting your request with that still from "Get Out and Get Under". What a great movie !! My favorite part is the encounter with the Pierce Arrow. I hope your quest for a "tin grasshopper" is fruitful ! Keep us posted, please.

Get a horse !

Rich,
Thank You. As a young guy I don’t mind a “wind up” tin grasshopper! If I could find a 17 or 18 that is featured, it would be ideal!
Thanks for the encouragement!

Isnt there a scandalous scene where Loyd gives his T a heroin shot? The T runs wild.
