I snagged this from AACA forum. It was posted by TerryB and is of his wife’s grandfather and his auto repair shop in Pinedale PA.

These old repair shop photos are a delight. '24-25 Tudor and lots of treasures.

Looking at the back wall there is a head gasket hanging on a nail!
I’ll bet that was a good one he saved for a possible repair job. When I cleaned out my Grandfathers shed/shop he has 4-5 good copper head gaskets he saved too. You could use them again if need be.

There are several gaskets and lots of tools and equipment to ponder. I have saved head gaskets by putting them in water and freezing. A plastic bag outside in the winter will do it. The moisture expands the asbestos for another application.

Behind his head on the side wall is a calendar and it looks like it has hunting dogs on it.

I love pictures like this, you can look for hours and find something new every time !
At first i could not see what the object was that seems to stand on top of the stove, but suddenly i recognised it : it is a model of a Zeppelin (or rigid airship, in those days also referred to as a 'Dirigible') on its mooring mast.
The huge Zeppelins were considered the pinnacle of aviation and seemed to have a bright future, specially because they could cross the ocean to and from Europe,
Well, we all know what happened to the Hindenburg, that ended it all except for some use by the military for coastal patrols against submarines.

I’m wondering what type of stove is he leaning on. I don’t see a stove pipe coming out of it. Could it be a coal burning stove? It looks like a coal bucket sitting next to it. Also the gearing on the lower side of the stove makes me wonder their use.

It's a coal stove - you can see it in the scuttle ("bucket") and shovel. Loads through the "chute" on the side, and the gearing takes a hand crank on the center gear (it's on top of the stove, next to the back of the headlight) to moves the grates on the bottom to clear them out and break up clinkers... (We used to have a coal cookstove...) The vent either went through the wall (likely) or the pipe next to the sewer pipe was the exhaust (tho it's really inadequately small for that). It MIGHT have a hot water tank or coil behind it as well, so you could have hot water...

I tell you what, cold as it's been the past few days I sure wouldn't mind that stove in my shop!! All in all - nice place!

I was looking around a bit... looks like he also was a radio bug - you can see the headphones hanging next to the window. Probably to catch a game or music while doing bench work... There's also someone hanging out in the corner in front of the sedan. Friend, coworker, shop rat, ??

Do you think in 100 years when someone is looking at pictures of our garages, with our period tools, signs and memorabilia, they will assume it is a picture of a “wonderful repair shop” instead of just a Model T garage? With its’ limited space and one single Model T, this looks like a private garage to me. Yep! They had man caves back then too. Jim PatricK

Indeed so many interesting things to discover. I noticed the streaking of the paint on the tudor/fordor which indicates how the paint was applied at the factory, notably with a brush. Also, that his clothes don't show a lot of grease from working on cars. Also, a cigarette in his hand, with volatile fluids all over the place. Definitely a no no in shops nowadays. Thanks for posting this.

Someone mentioned that there appeared to be a person lurking at the left front of the Model T. Upon close inspection, I think, instead of a person, it may be a raincoat hanging in the corner with a fireman’s hat hanging above it. If so, the fellow may be a fireman when not hanging out in his garage.

Perhaps one point missed is the consideration of just how much of a garage was needed to keep a Model T going. While pictures such as this one bring up huge quaffs of nostalgia, I can't say that it would be fun to work in such cramped quarters, much prefer the open space of modern clear-span buildings.
