Hello, Does anyone know what the end play is for the starter motor shaft?
In addition; 1) How do you make the adjustments?
2) Where do you attach the wires from the field coil?
Thanks for the help
Joe

Re: Starter Motor
A 3-4 thousandths end play is Ok, but make sure the armature commutator end clears the brush holders.
Adjusting the end play depends upon what you have done with the brush cap bushing or bearing & spacer spacer and the mounting bracket main bushing thrust surface.
The field pigtails are connected to the two insulated brush holders. It is impossible to connect them wrong if you follow this rule.
Give me a call if you need help.

Re: Starter Motor
I'm also in the process of setting up two starters. On one I noticed that the Bendix gear hits the starter motor housing. I set the endgame so that I have some distance there. I would be interested in other opinions on this.
