Photo of the Model T that went to Alaska and Back

Post by BLB27 » Thu Feb 08, 2024 1:35 pm

I recently visited with Dean Yoder who drove his 1924 Touring to Alaska in 2008 pulling a trailer. He averaged 35 mph. I assume photos of it have been previously been on the Forum, but I thought, sense the trip was 16 years ago, I would post it here. It is in storage so the photo does not show the entire car. I have also included two photos of his 1925 T.

I understand that Dean has driven the T to all 49 states, and that he has driven it and other Ts "well over" 100,000 miles. I wonder if anyone else has driven Ts as far as Dean!

My son, grandson and I really enjoyed our visit, especially my grandson who helped me restore our 1927 coupe. Dean graciously showed us his collections and explained many things about Ts. He showed the equipment he uses to pour babbitt and walked us though the steps involved in the process. We are fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit with Dean.

We have not recently seen or heard much about Dean for quite some time.

This explains the how come and why!

Does his rear wheels have heavier tires for the full load?

I met Dean at one of the Canyonlands Tours at Kanab Utah. I made the comment that he had driven a long way from home to get to the tour. He said, "Last week I was on another tour in Colorado" He has really gotten around in his T. I think he is the one who drove all the way up through Central America and on through Canada to Alaska. Haven't seen much of him on the forum for awhile.

Actually, Dean is very much active on social media's Model-T pages. This week he has been busy casting bearings in caps and showing pictures.

Norman, Did you mean "through Central U.S. and and on" and not "through Central America and on"?

I wonder if anyone has driven a T more mileage than Dean Yoder?

I didn’t formally meet Dean but he made it to Hershey last October. He is in the group picture that was taken. During introductions I remember him saying he doesn’t get on the Forum because he forgot his log in information and never bothered to figure it out. Correct me if I heard wrong by anyone else that was there that may remember hearing that. He’s probably got better things to do like drive that T all over!

I'm not sure it was Dean, but about 25 years ago or so, someone drove from Panama or therebouts all the way north to Alaska. I think it was Dean.

Doubtful. He's lucky I guess to being "single and free", he's got basically nothing but time on his hands and not much or no one to tie him down. One of a kind. Glad he's doing "his thing" and enjoying his time on earth! It's precious.
