My New Ride

Post by rnwilliams » Sun Mar 03, 2024 7:09 pm

Woke up Saturday morning, my grandson called and wanted me to go fishing with him. I took a look at Facebook while I was getting ready and low and behold, look what popped up. I made contact with the owner and before lunch rolled around, I was on my way to St. Louis. Back home by midnight. Fish weren't biting anyway.
This truck originally belonged to Mr. Herman J. Mees (1890-1978) of Columbia MO. His name is on the door. Mr. Mees was a farmer and apparently used this truck to haul produce. I love a Model T with a story to tel

I have trouble deciding to preserve it as is (clear coat) or restore it to Mr. Mees paint schema. But for sure I wouldn't undo his alterations

Wow this truck is a real deal survivor. It’s great that it hasn’t been out side in the weather!
These days finding one that’s an original truck that still has the owners own upgrades for his business isn’t real common.

I’m not to sure how much I would do to the body would be easy. For sure take lots of pictures of how it is now since it’s in solid original condition. A real neat find for sure!
I’ll bet that TT truck was used many years past the 1930’s.

It will stay in my collection as is. Going to get it running and take it to some car shows where I can share it with others.
A lot of people are telling me it appears to be a Martin Perry body. Anyone have any clues how i can identify it?

I believe it to be a Martin Parry 221-225 origin body. Here is link to the brochure.

Link to Martin Parry registry

Here is one just like yours.

That is a fantastic find!

Maybe get it running, then use it to drive the grandson to the fishing hole! It'll bring things full circle. :)

Beautiful truck! Keep it just the way it is. Definitely a Martin Parry steel cab with hinged or "vestibule" doors. Mine has "roller"doors. You should see door sills with an iron cross and MP stamping as well as the same on the rear corner covers where the bed sides are braced. You may also find remnants of decals on the lower doors exterior, the sides of the seat box, and a patent decal above the windshield. Mine also has part numbers stenciled on the inside in white paint.

Martin Parry had factories in Minneapolis, Minn. and York, Penn. and distributors throughout the country. One was in San Francisco, Cal. and I'm assuming that mine came from there since it was in Placerville, Cal. I believe that the bodies were broken down and crated for shipping to the distributors, hence the part numbers stenciled inside. Just like modern mail-order furniture, shipped in a box, some assembly required.

Thanks Jeff. I did find the MP logo on the cover by the tailgate. I will look in these other places too.

I love it !! And I love your intentions for it. Interesting that the spare wheel has no hub and rubber is solid.

That wheel in the back is not model T. I need to find out how the spare tire originally mounted to the drivers side of the truck.

Just got a message that Herman had gone viral on Model T Ford Club of Facebook, with over 200,000 views worldwide. That is great for our Hobbie and the Model T Ford. I'm a firm believer that the best way we preserve these cars for the future is to share them with others and tell their story.
