Sad News

My brother, Brian, and I sadly post news that our father, Dick Fischer, passed away this week after a period of declining health. Dad really enjoyed this forum over the years. As many of you know, he was a true engineer, and nothing he liked more than talking technical. This is a great place.

We are keeping our 1912 Touring, as it's been in the family since the 50's. I'm sure I'll be reaching out to you all for help at some point.

I'll leave you with a photo of my dad teaching me to drive the car in 1987. We were all a bit younger back then...

A treasured photo of my Grandfather, Martin Fischer (Newhall, CA), from the 50's when he first acquired the car. He worked on the F-104. My guess is that this photo was taken at George AFB in Victorville, CA.

Condolences to your family. Dick was a regular contributor on the forum going way back, both here and on the old forum, and I always enjoyed reading his posts.

Sorry to read about your dad. Very pleased however that the car will remain in the family. From personal experience, I know how hard it is when the car remains, but the long time owner is now gone. May your dad rest in peace and may he smile down upon you, especially when at the wheel of that T.

We are sorry to hear of the loss of your father. When I first lost my dad, I would see his tools or cars and just have a heaviness. But in about six to twelve months, I would look at the same tool or car and have so many wonderful memories of dad and the times we had together.

There’s an old John Denver song called “Thank God I’m a Country Boy.” There’s a line where he sings:

Well, my fiddle was my daddy's 'til the day he died
And he took me by the hand, held me close to his side
Said, "live a good life, play my fiddle with pride
And thank God you're a country boy"

I like to change it just a little to:

Well, my “T” was my daddy's 'til the day he died
And he took me by the hand, held me close to his side
Said, "live a good life, drive my “T” with pride
And thank God you're a country boy"

So sorry to hear about your loss. My dad has been gone for 36 years but I still miss him. I take comfort in some of the things that were his that are still around and in use today. I think you'll find the 1912 to be such a connection to your dad.

40 years now an every once in a while I’ll catch a whiff of Old Spice & immediately like a flashback I can see my dad for just a moment. It happens around the farm especially in the shop. I’ve tried to force it to happen just to see if perchance but nothing.Tender mercies.

I hope you boys have the same experience with regards to the 1912 & your Dad.

It always saddens me to read or hear such things. However, it is a fact of life, and something from which nobody can escape.
For a lot of us, the model T people we have come to know, whether in person or through interactive forums such as this one, become like our other family. For some of us, they are more like real family than are any of our blood relatives. As such, we want to keep in touch, know how they are doing, and when that time comes, we do want to know.
Thank you for that. And know, both of you as well as the rest of your family, that our hearts are with you at this time and forever.

I opened the forum, saw the thread title and immediately wondered who? I saw the name and right away associated it with numerous past discussions on the forum. I always enjoyed reading his posts, and trading comments with him. He was known and respected by many people here.

I also wish I had a picture of my father either in his model t or in his car repair shop from 1929 to 1941.
