Roadster fender irons
Looking at a 14 roadster sideways with no one in it, are the front and back fenders supposed to be level with each other or are the front fenders lower than the back ones? I am getting ready to mount the fenders on my car and I thought to measure the distance from the top of the fender irons to the ground. The front irons are 2” lower than the back ones. Is this correct? Maybe I have coupe rear irons instead of roadster irons or are they the same? I looked in the parts book and only one iron is listed, so both body styles must use the same irons.
Thank you ..Craig

Re: Roadster fender irons
My late14, early 15 (curved rear fenders). the fender tops are about the same height.
Not exactly what you have, but you would expect the fenders to be the same height on a complete car.

Re: Roadster fender irons
I believe so BUT somewhere I read that the length of the iron part that fits into the bracket has a longer leg for the earlier cars. I have some rear irons here but not sure what year - I'll measure them.

Re: Roadster fender irons
Steve, I couldn't attach the drawing. From the body to the bend is 12 inch. and from the bend to the end where the fender mounts is 7 inch.

Re: Roadster fender irons
I checked the 1920 parts book and found that the rear fender irons are the same from 1913 through 1920 and both the coupe and the roadster used the same iron. When I measured from the top of the front and rear fender irons I get the measurement of front 34 1/4 inch and rear 37 3/8 inch. from the floor to the top of the fender irons. That means that the rear fender sits 3 inch higher than the front fender, Is this what it is supposed to be? I have wire wheels both front and rear are 30x3 1/2 but that should only make a difference of 1/2 inch.. I don't have access to a 14 roadster to check to see if both fenders are the same height from the ground. The same parts book lists the front fender iron Right or Left from 1909 to 1920. Before I started the restoration I checked the frame to be sure it was straight, and it is.
I can get some pictures but I don't know if I can post them on the forum or not, I couldn't post a drawing I made showing the fender iron measurements.
Thank you all....Craig
