Could be a wishbone failure.

And a pretty crude photoshop attempt, at that. Look closely.

Look at the way a seam runs through the passenger side wheel, fender and windshield, angled up toward the right and a seam to the left of it that runs through the driver’s side windshield, fender and wheel, angled up toward the left. They couldn’t quite match it up.

Climate Change. Axle forging failed due to record-breaking heat.

I agree that there is some messing with the photo but think something did happen. The driver's side (left) spindle arm does look to be badly bent, don't think the bend was photo shopped. The front axle does look to be folded under and spring looks to match as does the wish bone which as an upward bow to it.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

Hey John,

Clearly photoshopped, but your comment gave me a chuckle as when I first looked at the photo.....My 1st thought was too much weight in the drivers seat could cause this problem! LOL

The photo has definitely been manipulated. But if someone spent the time to bend the drivers side radius rod, and insert a photo of the tops of the spring perchs, they have way too much time.
Based on the year, I'm in the "rolled the radius rod group"

Fu-book is rife with AI images lately, and it’s really problematic how this sort of fooling around distorts the historical record with misinformation. Folks tend to believe “photographic evidence” without question.

I sincerely hope this type of thing doesn’t become regular fare on this forum, where members rely on useful mechanical solutions and historical accuracy.

As for this particular image, spurious or not, it does illustrate what can occur with a front radius rod failure !

I don’t believe it’s photoshopped. It has a triangle shaped glitch or offset overlay, but no obvious pixel manipulation. The photo shows exactly what a collapsed front end looks like when the over the axle early wishbone ball breaks free. There’s a reason the wishbone design was changed. Also, it looks like it collapsed in the middle of the road, and the van is parked behind it is there to deflect oncoming traffic until the tow truck arrives. Probably a Virginia chapter tour mishap. Best case scenario is for it to happen at slower speed on a smooth paved road, if not, and it’s at speed on a rough road, it’s getting catapulted and thrown ass over tea kettle along with the passengers. I guess it was a fairly common occurrence on rough roads, because of all the accessory wishbone supports offered at the time. The one in the pic would keep the wishbone in place if the ball snapped off.

My observations are:
1. The red boxes show a shift in the image as Photoshop can do.
2. The green box shows the spring may be twisted.
3. The blue box shows the paint either burned or down to primer. I don't think a cold bend would show that there and not other places that are bent.
ClosUp.jpg
Without any sheet metal damage, I would guess this is staged with pre-bent parts.
Just my thoughts.
I have made up images in photoshop just for fun. I hope none on them mis lead or cause problems. I don't plan to do further nonsense without warning.

Photoshopped. Clearly, note all the areas of the photo that has been manipulated, the grey shading may look like primer, but just the result of photoshop.
