WHAT YEAR CAN IT BE
OK, Found a T for sale cheap but wonder if it is just several cars. Wood spoke wheels, gas tank under seat, coils over engine, nickel plated radiator surround. Can this actually be a legitimate complete car or just built of parts.
Thanks, Tom
Thanks, Tom

Re: WHAT YEAR CAN IT BE
Legitimate complete car with many things changed, updated and replaced over time, like most 100 year old cars.

Re: WHAT YEAR CAN IT BE
Yes, it could be either but not both. Could be a late 1925 something (round or square tank)
Fuel Tank
1916-1920
Same as 1915 type but sediment bulb was now iron. Sedans used “square” tank with sloping top, under driver's seat. The Coupelet used the standard round tank under the seat until about 1918, then the round tank was moved to the rear compartment. Around 1919 the Coupelet tank was replaced with the square sedan tank, but still located in the rear compartment.
1920-1925
Oval-shaped tank replaced round type. Construction was similar to previous tank except for oval cross-section. Two door sedans and coupes continued the square tank, but oval tank was used in a number of coupes in late 1920, apparently as an experiment. All coupes of the 1924-25 style used the oval tank under the seat.
Radiator shroud
1924-1926
Some flat tube radiators used during this period. Beginning in late 1925 an optional brass, nickel-plated, shell was offered. During 1926 three and four-row round tube radiators were used in addition to the standard five-row. The bottom skirt was secured to the engine mount/spring clip with a screw. Skirts used with the nickel shell had a nickel trim strip.
Coil Box
1922-1925
5001 1383B Ford. All cars (switch was on dashboard)
1926-1927
5001B 1383C Ford. Mounted on the engine, except for early 1926 TT trucks
The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.

Evaluate it as a parts pile.

Re: WHAT YEAR CAN IT BE
I agree. Sounds like a collection of parts for a project car rather than a disassembled car waiting to be restored.
From the MTFCA Model T Encyclopedia https://www.mtfca.com/model_t_encyclopedia/1926/
MODEL YEAR DATES: August 1925 to August 1926.
MAJOR MODEL YEAR FEATURES: All steel construction except for the Fordor Sedan. The Fordor was steel over wood frame, a modification of the 1925 body. Completely new styling; colors offered on closed cars although black seemed to continue in some production. Larger and heavier fenders and running boards. Touring and Runabout given doors on driver's side for the first time in U.S. production.
New chassis frame with longer front and rear cross members. Larger rear wheel brakes.
Engine/transmission modified with new pedals, a larger brake drum, different fan mount, coil box mounted on the engine, etc.
Fuel tank now in the cowl except on the Fordor Sedan and truck.
The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.

Re: WHAT YEAR CAN IT BE
A two-door (Tudor) sedan with the gasoline tank under the seat would have to be 1925 or earlier. But then you didn't say "sedan"? Maybe it is a "Tudor" roadster? All 1926/'27 Tudor sedans had the gasoline tank in the cowl.

Re: WHAT YEAR CAN IT BE
Most pieces of 1926/'27 model Ts are slightly different than the same pieces on a 1925 or earlier T. Most parts can interchange to some extent, and the differences my be only slight, but they (most?) are different.

(Like Norm said) if it's possible to post a photo or 3, it would help with the identification...

Re: WHAT YEAR CAN IT BE
In my reply above he said he has no pictures since it's a pile of parts.
Could still shoot the body to us I would think, unless it's REALLY torn down to nothing! But there's gotta at least be a shell of a body I would think? That way we can see the windshield to determine if it's 26/27 at least.

Re: WHAT YEAR CAN IT BE
Most folks here can reasonably well date individual parts to determine if the "pile" consistently represents a given year of manufacture. An engine number will definitely date the engine itself. If you really want an answer, we're going to need at least a picture of what you're dealing with.waterloo wrote: ↑Wed Jun 26, 2024 4:59 pmIt is mostly apart, even the body panels but it is a Tudor. No pictures since it is just a pile of parts.
That said, after 100 years or so, most Model T's are, to some degree or another, built up out of various parts. The best you can hope for is that all the parts are correct for the year of the car. It's very rare to find a T with all the same parts that were on it the day it was born.
