Re: You have been warned!
In that first picture, there doesn’t appear to be much of a town to see, or be proud of. I don’t understand why they made such a sign. Speed trap towns like that probably made most of their revenue on speeders.
There is a small town in North Florida on Highways 301 and 24, called Waldo, Florida, that was so notorious for being a speed trap that AAA had billboard signs erected on the approaches to it, warning drivers. Just about its’ entire revenue came from traffic stops and was used to fund the police force used to make the traffic stops. I believe there was a big investigation in 2014 which resulted in the resignation of the police chief and disbandment of the police force, so it may no longer be a problem.

Re: You have been warned!
In the 1950s there was a spot on Hwy 30 in Nebraska that was a speed trap. It was posted for 50 mph hours just after a stretch that was posted for 65 mph. A group of highway patrol cars hid and waited for speeders. I was warned and kept it at 50. As i went by there were several cars pulled over. The fine was $10 cash only, paid on the spot. 10 dollars was still real money in 1955.

Jerry, there has been a sign similar to that lower sign for decades at Canyon Lake TX. The very large earthen dam is prominent in the town and townsfolk are very proud of it. The sign says “Slow down see our dam. Speed up and see our dam judge”.

Re: You have been warned!
Iam guessing it's still early on in driving history.
sign says drive to the right indicating the establishment of new rules to road travel
probably still a lot of horse travel going on. reminding people to slow down
maybe a newer town being proactive about these newfangled auto buggies terrorizing once peaceful roads.
nowadays people do 50-60 in 25 mph zones.
I vote bring back the sign and lock um up! lol
