A sanity break

Don't get me wrong, I have some fun on Facebook, and the Model T groups there have a few people who really know their stuff. But there are also folks who will state the most preposterous baloney as absolute fact, and will not do any research trying to back up their superstitions. This forum is a good place to come for a sanity break. Folks are sometimes mistaken here too, but they're not jerks about it.

A lot of my longtime and best friends are on Facebook. I actually do (apparently still?) have an account/page there. FB sends me emails almost every week, sometimes two or three in a day, asking me to come back. My wife has had several accounts. Unfortunately, a few of hers have been hacked and caused her a lot of grief.
I sometimes follow shared links to FB market place to see antique cars for sale, or look at things my wife wants to show me. But it doesn't take long for me to want again to stay away from it.

I hear about model T and horseless carriage activity over there and sometimes think I would like to be a part of it. But I probably never will.

It seems that lately there is a lot of ridiculous AI (artificial intelligence) photos on Facebook. There are photos on there that are just blatantly incorrect, artificial. Is this a new thing? See what you can pretend to be true and find out if you can get away with it?

There are a lot of people there that do need help and if Steve, myself or any of the others can help with the correct information, more power to us to get the correct answers out. But yes, there are a lot of armchair never owned or worked on the T that do want to come off as they know what they are talking about. Some I ignore some I set straight.

Not only photos. AI (Aggravated Incompetence) is metastacising into more and more of our daily lives. Try dealing with a major corporation that wants to "communicate" with you only through a chat robot.

AI robot: "Starting at your dashboard,..."
Me: "What is my dashboard, and how can I find it?"
Robot: "I don't understand you."

AI is developed by very smart people. Very smart people are human, and can screw up as badly as any incompetent boob.

So you look at their home page. It's full of red flags that add up to SCAMMER. Delete and Block.

Sometimes, I find it refreshing to stay away from the computer for a while. I'm 68 and grew up back in the olden days when we didn't have computers. I work all day on a computer and it is just nice sometimes to step away from "the machine." Plus, all this instant communication ain't all it's cracked up to be as, you know, everyone has an "opinion."

I rarely have any problems with FB. If I do I ask my 26 year old how to fix it. Problem solved.

There are a lot of people on Model T Ford Club of Facebook and Hugh does a great job managing the site.

At least they allow you to post any number of pictures.

I don't know it anyone has had this experience....we did, we laughed... We have an Alexa small tower in the kitchen. We then went with a Firestick for the TV streaming in the living room that also had Alexa. They got into a debate one day, True story...had to change the TV to an Apple TV 'pod'. I know it listens, they all do, but at least it doesn't debate with the Alexa in the kitchen

I have never used Facebook. Too liberal for me! Opinions are ok, but only that. I like facts, and nothing but. Open discussions are really good.

While the core of Facebook may be liberal, most of the car forums are not. Along with for the most part, politics are not allowed on those forums, most moderators keeping things in check.
Biggest thing I see with Facebook, it is non searchable like this site and most of the other actual sites. I have seen a lot of really good information and posts that unless you actually save it, gets lost, it is a chat room. Many of the national car clubs have Facebook pages to connect with members.

Personally I like both. I know people that hate FB & others that hate this forum, both for that same reason?? Yes a lot of people on FB are of the
far west persuasion. Some post things that are hard to ignore, I find it challenging to call them out without divulging political views a exercise
in brain function & it drives them nuts.

Mark has it right. Hugh and the other moderators do a pretty good job of keeping political stuff off the Model T pages. Personal, non-group pages are another story. There you will find all sorts of political content. Some of it is funny and clever, some of it is misinformation spread by folks who are good people but have no grasp of reality, and some of it is deeply dishonest. Some of you would be shocked to hear my political views, but I realize this is not the place. On my own FB page, or on a general public page, I can post my own crackpot notions and Royce can call me a fool, and we're both fine. No harm, no foul.
