Parts giveaway.

Post by Erik Barrett » Thu Jul 25, 2024 12:07 am

Got a bunch of stuff here my insurance company says has to go. All black era stuff, No goodies, just parts you need to build or repair a T. Mostly chassis parts and some fenders. Most of this is going to be scrapped but I would like to give away as much as possible to hobbyists first. Too bad, lots of perfectly useable stuff but I can’t save it all. For details please see my posting on model T Ford club of Facebook. I am in Auburn California. Sacramento area. I would give the whole load away for what Schnitzer steel will give me.

Why does your insurance company say you must rid yourself of good parts? Is this action more California lunacy?

I had a similar problem and ignored the threats. I eventually chose another ins co.
But its a a different world today. In California many HO ins cos are leaving the state or dropping clients. My son in law's HO policy was cancelled and he had to go on some safety net proram offered by the state. His premiums sky rocked.
I just got a bill for my HO policy and my rates almost doubled. Actually I feel lucky I wasnt cancelled.

Are the parts stored outside? All mine are either in the garage or under the house. Nobody has told me to get rid of them. I do have to cut everything 6' from the house including trees bushes etc. Then only small shrubs spaced apart for 30' Next larger trees with branches under 8' cut off and no trees touching each other or hanging over the house.
Interestingly when we built the house 50 years we planted decidious trees along the south side to shade the house to save energy. The shed leaves in winter helped heat the house and the leaves shaded the house in summer to keep it cooler. Many small flowering shrubs next to the house to provide beauty. All those have been or need to be cut down within 6' of the house. I will need to put up rain gutters to keep water from causing weeds to grow in the 6' area. I left them off when the house was built to conserve water for the plants. So my logic is reversed by the people who think they know everything. I will keep gas cars because sometimes we have to evacuate and I wouldn't want to get stuck with a dead battery.

The same thing is happening in Florida. The insurance companies insured a bunch of homes that were not on stilts built on barrier islands, and Hurricane Ian flattened them. Now the companies who insured those homes are trying to recoup the money that they paid out. Hurricane insurance is ridiculously expensive here and you can't get a mortgage without it. I'm 20 miles inland here in SW Florida and not in flood plain, I have chopped down the last big tree that could fall on my house. I do not carry hurricane insurance anymore.

Same idiot beauracracy exists in Florida. I have 5 project cars, two of which were in the backyard. Overhead surveillance got a pic, and I was notified by my insurance to remove.

As for trees, anything that could possibly reach the house has to be trimmed way down, or, worse, cut down. With so many small properties, that means most people have cut down their trees. Now the issue is all the loss of trees has exacerbated flooding! They traded one problem for another...short sighted thinking. But heres the basis....the insurance companies don't cover flooding!

Back to subject though, it's a travesty to loose a cache of parts that are steadily being lost to such idiocy. Sad....
Call me anything you want...just so long as it isn't "late for dinner"
