Jeep CJ5 starter fragments ?

Post by Kaiser » Thu Sep 26, 2024 8:49 am

Hello there, some fragments i found when dismantling the starter of my '66 CJ5 have me baffled :
The starter had a tendency to lock the bendix in either the out- or the in position, resulting in the starter not disconnecting, or not engaging.
Long story short, took the starter apart and two fragments of a ring fell out, can not seem to find an exploded view of the starter or the bendix that show a ring that matches what i found.
I cleaned the starter and rebuilt it, it now seems to run flawless, so?
What is that ring and where? I have all the manuals, and another starter and took that apart, but nowhere a ring of similar appearance to be found.
Help ! :D
