Warford
I’m on the list for a Layne Warford Transmission but haven’t heard back on it. Has anyone out there received theirs yet?

My gearbox is done, should be here in a week or so. Now to study up on axle/differential removal and repair as to coincide with the installation of the Warford.

I’ve had mine for going on 4 years now. It makes the car enjoyable to drive, for sure. Don’t be afraid to force it into gear, it sometimes seems difficult but it gets easier with practice. I banged it pretty hard learning to drive it. I was worried I had done some damage once so I pulled the cover off, I was fine. They can take some abuse (within reason). The only thing I need to do to mine is bend the shift arm a bit. I sometimes will knock it out of gear with the back of my knee.
Do you have auxiliary brakes? If not, get some.
I have Rockies on mine and am very happy with the setup.

I do have brakes. I have to refurbish them still. The casting has Miller Brake embossed on it. I made an extension for the shift lever, and it is angled back to put the knob next to my knee. With my hand on my knee I can make imperceptible changes just by moving my knee. Neat trick. By far the best thing you can do is fit a foot accelerator pedal. This makes it much easier to get the motor into an appropriate rev range for the gear to be selected. The box will take heavy shifts, but with matched engine speed it wiil change just like a clutchless change in Roadranger in a semi.

What is the difference between this transmission compared to the ones Langs sells? I'm looking forward to getting one at some point for my 19 and removing the Ruckstell rear

I don’t know that Langs sells them but if you contact Layne Machine you should be able to get one. I was on a waiting list and just recently got the call from John. I’ve heard lots of good stuff on this modern version with synchronized gears. They also shorten your drive shaft and torque tube included in the price.

I just received my Warford this week. I got on the list at the end of October so it was right at 6 months.
John allowed me to send them my driveshaft and torque tube for shortening while I waited so now I have everything ready to go for the installation.
That worked out great.
