mySQL is locking on server

Post by ChrisB » Tue Jan 15, 2019 9:48 pm

I have disabled Private Messaging to see if this is the problem.

We have also had quite a few problems with Private Messaging with messages not sent or sitting in Outbox.

You can email a member if you click on name you will see Email under contact member.

I saw the forum was down this morning also.
FWIW, I've had no issues with getting PMs.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought with phpBB that messages sit in the Outbox until they are read? Once read they are moved to Sent.

Correct Walter. Also the recipient isn't notified by email as a default setting. You have to go into your profile and select being notified by email. This way messages can sit in an outbox for a long time.

Chris,

Thank you for all your work to get the new forum up and running. You are appreciated for all your efforts as we explore the new system and features this system provides. As with all our Model T's there is always something that needs attention and we have to be patient and work together to get things running smoothly. I'm sure you have lost much sleep over this conversion. WE NEED TO SHOW YOU RESPECT AND UNDERSTANDING.

I hope you know there are many of us who have the old wood-fired laptops with the "Hickory Smoke" flavor to keep us calm while we who are analog struggle in this digital world.

Have a great day,
Dom

I had that sql locking on server problem----Fixed it by going to RECOVERY on the control panel and resetting my computer to previous day recovery. That took care of it---all is well now. Paul

With a phpBB board, the outgoing message sits in the Outbox until the recipient logs into the forum and opens his mailbox.

We have talked to our host and they have found nothing unusual in our MySQL setup.

We are thinking of turning messaging back on to try and find out what is causing the problem.

We will make a post to this thread when we do.

There was just another failure at just after 4pm. I have found a permanent solution but its going to take a couple of days to test and then deploy.

Everyone please bear with us. I'm going to keep posting to see if I can find any patterns.

I do not know if this helps or not. Yes, it was off (error codes as you mentioned) just several minutes ago. I also had trouble with this site lasnight around midnight Califunny time. I also had troubles with AACA's forum last night. I do not recall which one, but I got "503 error" codes on one of them last night. While we were off, in the past twenty minutes, I went to AACA again for a few quick looks, and also experienced am "SQL" error with them. Interesting to me that both sites were having issues in the same time-frame, twice.

Sorry Chris. I didn't actually mean it "cured" itself. I realise you're on top of it & it's appreciated.

It’s a Total coincidence! Unless they use the same hosting provider.... what is the website? I can uncover who they use. If it’s the same company....hmmmm.

Yes and thank you to Steve J for answering the question.

Thank you to all our administrators and moderators for the work you do. I did communications systems contracting for a living for about thirty years. I know how infuriating it can be to sort out the hundreds of minutiae involved in making these things work, any one of which could be causing some silly problem.

It’s like a puzzle. One piece falls into place and you go searching for the next one. Or you wait for the the next clue to show itself. Ion if all else fails, you force a solution (which I’ll be doing tomorrow). I studied engineering to get the discipline of how to solve problems engrained in my brain. Not to be a circuit jockey. As a CEO, that skill has served me well. I often use it to great effect on complex IT issues and thankfully I have deep working knowledge of the systems we use for our forums. That doesn’t mean crap when thing go wonky though, and things are going wonky!

Humbled,
