In case anyone is wondering, the two straps go from the cross bar to the transmission cover bolts to stabilize the cross shaft.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

Thanks Steve for telling the truth! The fact is Sunderlin had no mechanical knowledge that I'm aware of. He wrongly assumed all the equalizers did the same thing. How wrong he was. I'm surprised Bud Williams didn't correct the matter when he took over the business. Real Rocky Mountains never used rods to the brakes.
