Delco Two Cap distributor needed

Post by Chris Haynes » Sun Sep 14, 2025 3:38 pm

Earlier this year I bought a 1932 Model B 5 Window that had been in backyard storage for 75 years. It was an early Hot Rod with a Morton and Brett OHV Dual Plug conversion head. It also had a front mounted Delco Two Cap distributor. These were originally used on cars from the late teens and early '20's. The American Stutz four cylinders used them. They became very popular for guys racing Model T's and A's when a bolt on drive kit hit the market. Sadly during my cars hiatus the distributor disappeared. The mount and drive are still there. I am searching for a replacement to get my car back on the road again.

Good luck on your quest Chris. Keep in mind that there was also a single cap version of these distributors. They came in left and right side input shaft, but can be reversed with a bit of effort. These are standard Bosch magneto mount units, so could use any DU/ZR4 mag to get it up and running

Here is a pic of a single cap version I worked over a while back, sorry no cap in this shot.

A few years ago Dickson Automotive of Beloit Wi , ph 608-312-2273 , & ph 608-365-2842 , dicksonauto619@gmail.com was advertising that they sold new Hentschel Distributors which are designed to replace twin spark magnetos and the like. I don’t know if these are still available or not but the pictures I saw of these replacements looked very good and may be the answer to your problem as they are designed to mount on a cross drive magneto mount or side drive magneto mount as used on Model T race cars with twin spark over heads such as Rajo .
