26/27 spare tire carrier

Post by hah » Wed Dec 17, 2025 9:43 pm

It’s not so new! However, was pursuing classifieds. Noticed 26/27 spare tire carrier remembering there are 3 hole and 4 hole with one having a longer snout. Which one is for what year, month or type of vehicle?

Been a while, but do remember the early '26 (Nov '25 serial) runabout body I restored used the 3 hole mount. Believe that the 4 hole mount came along later, as there are later runabouts with the 4 hole mount. Parts and Price books are unclear for the 2872, the factory # is 7317A for this runabout and coupe mount, so there may have been a 7317 assigned for the early 3 hole? Ford used the letters after the # to indicate change.

So check you body to see the # of holes for the rear mount.
Uncertain about length differences.

John, If your Coupe rear panel has 3 holes, then you buy one with three holes. Same with four.
If you do not have holes...ours, dated October 26, 1926, has four holes, if that helps...but I don't know if it is correct.

I'm running 30 x 3.5 disc wheels on my Racer & used a 4 hole mount with the 23" Y for the rear mounted spare - I measured 2 of the 4 hole mounts both at 4 & 1/4" - 2 of my 3 hole mounts are 4" & 4 & 1/8".
