Passing of Norm Kling

Post by erkbrn » Mon Feb 16, 2026 4:49 pm

The San Diego T club regrets to inform you all that long-time core member and Model T wizard, Norm Kling, has passed as of a few weeks ago...days before his 90th birthday.

He was generous with his time and knowledge to me personally and lent me a hand with my Ts more than a few times. Many others in our club would say the same. He was also incredibly active on the forum, posting with helpful insight almost 4700 times since the new forum started in 2019 (and probably just as much on the old forum). He was helping others right up until the end.

He was a great Model T'er and an even better friend. He will be missed on our tours and at our club meetings. He is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Dolores, who is in our thoughts.

I am so very sad to see this. He was without a doubt one of the finest model T forum friends ever.

Never met Norm, but he was such a frequent contributor to our forum that I felt I had! He and the others who donate their time and knowledge to us are valued. Adiós, Norm Kling.

From his youth in Glendale to his non-youth in San Diego County (Alpine?) Norm was always a good source of sensible information. He knew his stuff, and got the information across with no drama. The example he set on the forum is a good one to follow.

On two occasions while visiting my son and his family I visited Norm at his house. Southern California is different than Missouri and going to the small town of Alpine was a treat. We had never met before, but I was welcomed as if we had been old friends
He always had an interesting story or two to tell. He was also a gracious host. We went for a ride in his Model T and had lunch.
We were hanging out with another Model T guy.

Norm and Dolores were kind and gracious enough to offer the back seat of their touring to Teresa and I on the San Diego tour 2 years ago. I had read his posts for years and was honored to meet him and his wonderful wife. We were their guests for 2 days of touring and witnessed his love for the region and saw how to drive a model T like a T is supposed to be driven. He will be much missed by those who stay behind. May God welcome him with widespread arms.

Sad to learn of Norman Klings passing. Always enjoyed and looked forward to reading his postings. Always gave good Model T advice and assistance. (Even Model A.) I especially liked his youth reminisces recalling the days when an occasional Model T and even horse drawn vehicles were seen on the streets of L.A. What a great guy. He will be missed in the antique auto community. RIP Norm.

RIP Norm. Thanks for sharing pictures with me of places from my dad's young adult life around Glendale. And it was nice visiting with you on tours.
