NEW Stevens T-290 Refacer Tool

Post by SMHnat » Thu Nov 20, 2025 10:22 pm

I had some of the Stevens T-290 Refacer tools reproduced.
Near exact copy of the original tool. I finished the final assembly of them this evening.
The tool does a beautiful job.
Custom made cutter head, heat treated.
$289+postage

Question. Is there a keyway in the rod to accept what appears ro be a Woodruff key?

Its a small straight undersized key that can be removed. It has to be removed in order to put the tool through the spindle.

I need a surfacing tool for the upper and lower bushings on my one piece spindles. What would be the cost for this reamer?

I remember when this tool fell out of production and no supplier had them available at all...

The howling and gnashing of teeth was audible even with my computer sound turned down!

Here they are again, in spectacular form (nicely done Seamus!) and they are sitting on the poor lad's shelf. There is absolutely no easy or accurate way to fit a rebushed spindle back to the axle without using this tool. I own one from years ago and believe that it is absolutely indispensable for any shop or owner who is going to do his own work.

This tool should have sold out in a month. So the next time anyone says "why don't they make xxxxx", think back to this fellow who made an investment in himself, time and $$ for the hobby, did a wonderful job making an indispensable tool, and apparently doesn't have the hobby responding much less breaking down his doors to get one. I know that if I didn't already own one, I'd have been his first customer.

This is as useful, accurate, and important tool as you'll ever find, and is absolutely necessary for a credible job on a very common repair on Model T's

You just never know what people value or will be willing to shell out money for (even after lamenting that it was not previously available!)

Good luck Seamus, I've heard very nice things about you and your work - you'll come out of this on the other side of this and be just fine.
