MODEL TT Truck RUCKSTELL Rear End disassembly assembly pictures

Post by StevenS » Mon Sep 02, 2019 12:57 am

Though these pictures might help somebody in the future in putting together a Ruckstell Rear End for a Model TT truck. A person still needs to buy and read the MTFCA Ruckstell Rear End book before disassembly and assembly of such rear end.

Great photos Steven! Thanks for posting them. I'm sure they will be helpful.

Background: Your photos show a Differential Spider (Part # 1033B) and 4 Differential Pinion Gears (Part # 1032), which are indicative of a later TT. The earlier TT's had a Differential Pinion Shaft (Part # 1033) and 2 Differential Pinion Gears (Part # 1032). To accommodate this the Differential Gear Case in later trucks was machined for the spider (Part # 1028B) as shown in your photos. In earlier trucks the Differential Gear Case was machined for the shaft (Part # 1028). (I know this for a fact because I've had mine apart.)

Question: Were the Ruckstell assemblies also built in two configurations? While I suppose the later gear case machined for the spider would accommodate an earlier unit with just a shaft, it wouldn't work the other way around. If they were made in two configurations and you have an earlier Ruckstell that's machined for a shaft it would not work on a later rear end with a spider.

I'm asking to raise the caution for guys wanting to obtain and install a Ruckstell in their truck. It seems it would be possible to obtain parts, get the whole thing apart and discover what you have won't work.

OR - Have I overlooked something and my concern is not valid???

Thanks for the pictures!

Also, see Martynn Vowell's great line drawings here in the gallery section. He spent a lot of time getting the various versions and assemblies in order: app.php/gallery/album/59
