Bosch type 448 distributor set up

Post by Fisher400 » Sat Dec 09, 2023 1:27 pm

Hello,

I have a 26 engine that has an original Bosch front plate 448 distributor. The car has always been very hard to start and I am trying to verify the basics. Could someone confirm install instructions on an original Bosch 448? I currently have TDC identified, points are open but the rotor is pointing to the passenger side fender. I read the rotor should point to the #1 cylinder. Also, this distributor has a thumb screw on the opposite side of the coil wire. Is this intended to have a ground wire or strap attached?

Thanks!

Instructions were great, set up as described and added the ground wire as instructed. It did start, but I am having a rpm surging at idle. I am running a Winfield sr downdraft. Any thoughts on the source of this? Intake gasket and carb gasket have been replaced…
