Two Lever '09 on ebay?

Post by jimdix » Mon Sep 09, 2019 9:10 am

There is a 1909 2 lever, #9110, right hand drive, in Albreta Canada, on ebay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1909-Ford-Mode ... 3633880733. Is it real?
The person that listed it doesn't seem to be a T person. I'm not an '09 expert but I'm sure there's one on board. Don't see it mentioned previously.

You didn't let it load long enough. There are a bunch of pictures at the bottom. I think the seller has done his research. He gives a pretty good description along with the pictures.

It is an "interesting" car to say the least.

When I clicked on the description of the car a lot more pictures came up. Interesting car. The seller does state that it has parts ranging from 1909 to 1911. I did see parts later than that, but it does have a lot of early parts on it. I wouldn't mind having it. I would probably have to change the kitchen linoleum on the running boards though.

I am not seeing a lot that tells me it is 1909 (except maybe the rear end housing and radiator?). While I will admit not an expert (far from it esp on early cars). In my OP there are things like the hog head and lack of casting seams on the block kinda indicate a reworked later block (look at the number pad then look at other cast in place early blocks, also the lifter bosses ). I would suggest that that number is too high to be two pedal/lever and anyone looking to buy do their research.

The engine is a later one. The seriall number embosement is fake. The rear end is a 1910 or 1911. The correct 1909 rear end was a plain camshell. The 6 revits were added during 1909 calendar year, but were mostly 1910 models. The front axel is later. The pan is a 4 dip from 1925-27. The hood former is 1912-14. The head light bodies look brass plated. The steering wheel has been bent to take the smaller wood rim. The two lever set up is a home made one. The linoleum on the first 1909 Ts was gray. A mess worth about what the current bid is. Would be fun to have, It would take $$$ and time just to clean it up get in good operational condition. While not the best one to judge this T, I own a 1910 and have owned a 1909.

He does say the rear is late 09 or 10, to be fair. I agree the motor has been faked from a later block (the number block is awful) and we don't see the hogshead to check the 2 lever setup. It's a right bitza and needs a lot of work to make halfway respectable.

Will V, I cannot see any more pictures either. My "not quite a DSL" connection will only load the one first picture. I tried it several times, let it try for ten minutes and got nothing more, even refreshing a few times after the ten minutes. (I hate the gamer/computer generation, CLUELESS outside their "high speed virtual" world!). I cannot see enough in the ONE picture I can see to tell much. But from the little I can see, I am not favorably impressed. I see so much poorly done (and ugly) that I just expect the rest of the car to be as bad. What I read here just confirms my feelings about the car.
Clearly, with some amount of work to make it look a bit less hokey, and a reliable runner, It could be a great, FUN, car! A decent (proper '09/'10) color would help. And just KNOW it isn't a real '09 two lever car. I have known several people with beautiful "made-up" '09 or '10 Ts, that made them look great (except for really up close and not real correct stuff, and they had a lot of fun with them. I think that is a good thing. And this car could be a good thing. However, as is? It would probably be worth more taken apart and sold for parts.

A neat job done on that block, even the early oil pipe, if it had push rod guides fitted you would have to look twice, but that engine # pad is bad considering the rest. Looks like it may have been a freeze plug block.
Darel, I am seeing a 3 dip pan, not a 4.

The handbrake handle/cross shaft is also much later, post cast cam model. I suspect the frame may be 1919-21 model, modified to suit. It has later forged running board brackets, bolted on, and in one photo shows what I believe are the holes for the battery carrier, which was not fitted until 1919.
Enjoy it like the replica it is, but don't expect to have $12000 worth of genuine early parts.

Interesting early re-creation. The rear axle housings are 1911-12 12 rivet modified to look like 6 rivet housings. The front axle is a later one modified to look like 1909-11. You can see where they have added material to "fill in" the area where the spindle arm clearance used to be. The spindles are made up.

I hope whoever buys it does so knowing what they are getting.

The guy doesn't seem to be pulling any fast ones aside from that engine # which looks like an attempt to disguise what was there. the car sure has been around the block a few hundred times and needs plenty of TLC. lets see if it sells. as to the threat at the end to part it out if it doesn't sell sounds like bunk.

I still cannot look at the pictures. But it just sounds worse and worse. I can't see them but those spindles sound scary to me!

Seems to be a browser issue. The pictures didn't display for me in Chrome but when I opened the page in Edge they did.

It appears to be a bunch of parts which has been modified to look similar to an 1909 Model T. From a casual inspection of the pictures, it does not appear to have any original 1909 parts.
Incidentally the serial number 9110 was stamped about August 1909 and the two lever was dropped after about serial number 750 in late 1908. So while it is cute and it looks early to the casual observer, it is not a genuine 1909 Ford T. The price for such a cute car seems reasonable, but buyer beware.

For comparison, here's engine #9267, assembled Aug 16th 09. (There are some non-factory marks toward the rear - it was metal-stitched after joining the 2-piece crank club).

Another comparison, here's the radiator that goes with #9267.
