What size is an amp gauge

I’m building a speedster and have an Overland Model 91 body. I’m going to put the T switch in the switch that fits the body. The hole in the dash measures 1 5/8”, the hole on the switch plate that I have is about the same but before I order one I wanted to confirm it would fit in the hole. I can figure out some way to mount it as long as it’s the right size.

My suggestion would be to do a shotgun search with the words - "period ampere gauges" - and see what google images gives you to view.

As you are building a custom speedster, the instrumentation can be almost any thing.

The small ammeter is 1-5/8" & large is 2-1/4". T's were 20-20 amp scale. 30-30 will work too
You should be able to restore the switch with T switch parts. Need to see the back of it, inside if possible

Thanks for the replies. The switches are the same but the tumblers are different and none of the Gord keys fit so I’ll just remove the rivets and swap everything.
I had a T chassis that I used the motor from for another car then I picked up what was left of an Overland touring car for $100, which was the front half of the body, frame and radiator shell. I got a motor at Chickasha a few years ago but I’m getting closer to finishing.
I know now that a Ford gauge will work. I used the Overland front end and steering box so I think I’ll use the Overland column. I had shortened and fitted a Ford column (not the one in the picture) but I think I’ll use the original one since I’ve got a couple T columns to look at already while driving. As long as I can make the spark and gas rods work from the Overland column to the T motor.

Corey, that bottom black switch takes a larger key that looks like the Model T key with grooves on both sides and is very difficult and expensive to find or buy.

They were used on a few more expensive vehicles, seems like Dodge was one.

I had a switch like it once before that had a key that looked like my crude drawing. It was a Briggs and Stratton key. I don’t know if it was correct but it worked. I bought the switch and then found the key in a basket of keys at a flea market, then I sold them and and am starting over but before I was working on an Overland but this time I’ve got to make a switch that switches from mag to battery.

That key looks a lot like some of the ancient rock art depictions of what the "Ancient Aliens" TV guy says are Space Aliens. Of course, A VW Beetle coming down the street would probably look like a space alien to him. I figure the Space Aliens abducted Henry Ford about 1903 and imparted to him the dark secrets of the epicyclic transmission.

The Dodge Brothers Clum Key for sale in the classified parts is the type that the lower black ignition switch needs.

The DB on the key is for dodge Brothers.

The key has a number and the switch cylinder should have a number, like the Model T keys.

While that ammeter is the correct size the 30-30 amp range is for a Model A & others. But it will work & has lighting - could be a very good option.
Model T 20-20 amp range and the pointer was behind the scale. The inside of the case would appear black behind the pointer

There are a lot of the BASCO keys like shown on eBay. I have a switch that should take one, just never have gotten around to getting one.

The problem with the cheap ammeters the vendors sell is that they are not accurate. It is the adage you get what you pay for.
