WTB Drive Plate for 1925 Brake Drum With lugs
I'm putting together a transmission and wishing to use a 1925 (narrow) brake drum with clutch disc lug shoes. I've found the bolt spacing for the drive plate is 1/8" less on this drum than earlier narrow brake drums. I'm in need of the drive plate/output shaft to mate with this drum. As accurately as I can measure, the bolt spacing 180 degrees across the drum is 6 11/16" on my '25 drum and 6 13/16" on the earlier ones. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hello Brian,
See attached service bulletin. You just need to modify your existing drive plate.

Terry is correct about modifying an early drive plate. Chances of finding the correct plate are slim & none.
Increase the counterbore for the bolt heads to get wrench/socket clearance also or use allen bolts.
The same bolt pattern modification can be done to use an early drive plate on a wide drum & carefully machining the O.D. also.

Thats not what he is looking for. What you have is for a wide drum.Karl Von Neumann wrote: ↑Sun Jun 15, 2025 5:58 pmFirst one I grabbed measures 6 11/16 across the pattern
Put it on your narrow drum & notice the OD is too small. The OD should be the same as the drum band surface.

Re: WTB Drive Plate for 1925 Brake Drum With lugs
I might be just as easy to use a 26-7 wide brake drum and its matching drive plate. I believe there is no need for any modifications to run this combo in a three dip pan. You can't run a wide band on it though. However the narrow band will like the job because it gets to run on a single drum surface rather than the two piece drive surface provided by the narrow drum and its often mismatched OD on the drive plate.
Hope this helps Bryan.

Re: WTB Drive Plate for 1925 Brake Drum With lugs
I recently had the same issue on an engine I was building as a spare. I needed a good clutch/brake drum so I used one I’d been saving with the replaceable lugs. I wasn’t aware of the bulletin, but after assessing the surprising issue I milled out the inner side of the holes and it bolted up perfectly.

Thanks to all of you for your responses. I figured there was a "snowball's chance in hell" of finding one but it was worth a shot. I considered modifying the holes but questioned the wisdom of doing that. Glad to hear Ford recommended it and that it works. Karl, I appreciate you looking through your stash. Thanks again everyone.
