Good source for Wooden Steering Wheel Rims

Post by OilyBill » Sat Feb 21, 2026 11:18 pm

Anyone know a good source for wooden steering wheel rims, such as on early Ford cars, or Model T's? The kind that nest into the 4 spider spoke ends, and are held in place with a screw on each arm of the center spider? I need to find a source for a wooden rim for two 1912 Overland automobiles. The original deteriorated rims were wood, and are just 1/2" larger in diameter than a Model T steering wheel rim, so I cannot use a Model T wood steering wheel, but they are virtually identical in style and shape of the wood rim area. Anyone know someone who made a Model T wood rim for them, and could make a slightly different size?
Thanks to all!

Do you have a diameter?
I have a few wooden wheels that are not T’s

Snyders carries a good selection of finished steering wheels. Maybe they can help you?

I bought a steering wheel from this vendor several years ago, and I've been very happy with it.

Noah Stutzman can also make wooden steering wheel rims. Years ago he told me if I bring him the metal spider, he can go from there.

It’s also fairly easy to make your own by cutting 16 pieces of wood and gluing them with overlapping joints. I made it round by using a router bit and a turntable on my drill press.
