Re: RUSTY GAS TANK
Would help for you to describe the depth of the rust: light powder, scale(slight or heavy) on inside. Any rattles? I had a tank that looked promising, had mud wasp nests inside (limestone), shook all but one out, poured a gallon of in 10% solution of cleaning vinegar put the tank on end to dissolve the limestone nest, it did the nest & dissolved the rust too, made a pin hole in the tank.
Look at all the old links about solutions too
The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.

They do have them listed on their website, listed under accessories (round and oval):

Re: RUSTY GAS TANK
POR gas tank cleaner, etchant, and sealer are absolutely the best available. I have had multiple successes with the product and absolutely no complaints.
If you believe you must have a new tank, then you do; if you believe you can save your old one, you can do that, too.

Re: RUSTY GAS TANK
If your tank isn’t really scaled up , not deeply pitted on the inside and still pretty solid DONT THROW IT AWAY if you decide to get a new one. There are lots of T owners who would buy it.
Re: RUSTY GAS TANK
I have been helping a friend clean his tank for his car. We built a frame work that we are spinning the tank on after adding drywall screws to the tank.
I can't seem to be able to figure out how to attach a picture but if you want to email me directly,I will return a pic/ video of how we did it.

Re: RUSTY GAS TANK
putting something like screws and rotating the tank has been done in the hobby for years. Unfortunately that will not remove/clean the pitting and it will only return after time.
The POR kit will provide etchant which will completely kill and neutralize all rust right down to the pits.

Re: RUSTY GAS TANK
Kevin Prus is apparently offering both, new round & oval gas tanks - last I spoke to Rootlieb a while back, they didn't have them.

I took mine to American metal cleaning in Portland. Have not had any issues with it since they cleaned it. Cost 75$ in 2003.
