Open Car Top Boots

Post by CudaMan » Fri Oct 23, 2020 2:08 am

I was asked offline about top boots for open cars. Using Google to search for old threads on the subject, I came up with these:

I have made numerous top boots for my cars. Like everything else, you have to ask yourself if you want a factory original style, or do you just want a boot that will work? I have made mine exactly like the originals. I don't know if the research center has the prints. They might. I've been lucky to have good originals to copy. Be aware that Ford didn't supply boots for the 23-25 models. I made one for my '25 from a NOS 1917-22 that I have. Another point is Ford didn't originally call them boots. I think they called them top covers.

Here's a tip:

If you make your own top boot, use top material, not upholstery material.

Upholstery material stretches which doesn't make for a good boot.

Top material does not stretch. Factory boots were made from top material.
